Cape Lookout National Seashore's 50th Anniversary and National Park Service Centennial celebration scheduled to be held tomorrow (Saturday, June 18, 2016) will be modified slightly due to the Gale Warning issued by the National Weather Service. All planned activities scheduled to take place at the Harkers Island Visitor Center, including the Anniversary ceremony at 11:00 a.m., are still set to happen. For the sake of safety, Island Express Ferry Service has cancelled all ferry service from both Beaufort and Harkers Island to the park. All scheduled activities on South Core Banks and Shackleford Banks, including the Horse Sense and Survival and the Evening at the Cape Tours, have also been cancelled for Saturday. Based on weather conditions in the morning, the ceremony may move next door to the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum at 11:00 a.m. The national parks, including Cape Lookout National Seashore, are celebrating the NPS throughout 2016, with special events and activities taking place at various times in the year.
