HARKERS ISLAND, NC –Cape Lookout National Seashore encourages all 4th grade students of Carteret County to enter the "Diamond in the Rough Student Art Contest". The competition asks students to submit artwork that shows their connection with the Cape Lookout National Seashore's natural, cultural, and historical beauty. The last day to enter art has been extended from Friday, May 13, to Friday, May 27 at 5:00 p.m. Student artists should bring their pieces of work to the Harkers Island Visitor Center information desk (131 Charles Street, Harkers Island, NC 28531), along with the entry form anytime between now and May 27. Submitted student artwork will be featured at an exhibit at the Harkers Island Visitor Center Theater through the remainder of 2016 calendar year and the top three entries will be recognized on June 18, 2016 at the formal ceremony commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Cape Lookout National Seashore and the Centennial of the National Park Service. Students can enter this contest individually, or with friends as a group. First prize in both categories will receive an NPS arrowhead plaque recognizing their accomplishment. The top three entries in either category will also receive a free ferry trip and lighthouse climb for four people to South Core Banks redeemable by September 17, 2016.
