HARKERS ISLAND, NC –Cape Lookout National Seashore observes its 50th Anniversary as part of the national park system on March 10, 2016. In commemoration of this special day, the seashore will roll-out a new, updated version of its park brochure and map. The revamped brochure features the seashore's purpose, general information, and park orientation with a fresh new look. The brochure will be distributed at Cape Lookout National Seashore visitor centers, by local tourism information outlets, and by request via email, phone, or standard mail. It is an exciting year for Cape Lookout National Seashore, which is also celebrating the National Park Service (NPS) Centennial. On June 18, 2016, the seashore will recognize 100 years of the NPS, along with the 50th Anniversary as a national park unit with kids' activities, a formal ceremony featuring the winners of an area-youth art contest, and Ranger-led opportunities taking place over that weekend. Planning for this event is underway and more details will follow in the coming weeks. National parks, including Cape Lookout National Seashore, will celebrate the NPS Centennial throughout 2016, with special events and activities, taking place at various times in the year.
