HARKERS ISLAND, NC – Cape Lookout National Seashore opened the new National Park Service Beaufort Visitor Information and Island Express Ferry Service Ticket Center on April 30, 2014. The information center is located in the Beaufort Town Hall (the former US Post Office) on 701 Front Street. The Visitor Information Center hours will be 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM daily.A dedication of the center is scheduled for May 29.
"We are very pleased that our partnership with the Town of Beaufort has allowed the National Park Service to be located on Front Street.It is truly a great opportunity for the Park to be able to provide information about the Seashore to the numerous visitors to the town," stated Superintendent Kenney.
The Beaufort Visitor Information and Island Express Ferry Service Ticket Center opens with newly installed exhibits that introduce visitors to the breadth of resources located within the 56 miles of barrier islands that comprise Cape Lookout National Seashore, and encourages them to "GO" to the islands to visit.
The park service is seeking volunteers to help staff at the Visitor Information Center greet visitors, answer questions, provide information and to otherwise help visitors feel welcome.Interested individuals may apply through Volunteer.gov (under KEYWORD type "Cape Lookout") or print an application from the park website (https://www.nps.gov/calo/supportyourpark/volunteer.htm).Call Volunteer Coordinator Kerby Price at 252-728-2250, extension 3008, for more information.
