Cape Lookout Lighthouse to Open for Season on May 14, 2014

HARKERS ISLAND, NC – Cape Lookout National Seashore will open the Cape Lookout Lighthouse for the season on Wednesday, May 14, 2014.The lighthouse will be open for climbing on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from May 14 to September 20, 2014.Climbing hours for the Lighthouse will be from 10:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.; during extended hours, Wednesday, July 2 through Saturday, August 23, hours will be 10:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.On holiday weekends the lighthouse will be open on Sunday, May 25, July 6 and August 31.

Prices for Tickets:$8.00 for adults.$4.00 for children (12 years and under and at least 44 inches tall), senior citizens (62 years and older), and persons with disabilities.

Where to Purchase Tickets: Tickets are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and can only be purchased in-person the day of the climb at the Light Station Visitor Center located on the island near the lighthouse.

Ticket sales begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Light Station Visitor Center.Climbing will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will run every 15 minutes with a limit of 10 people per climb time.Ticket sales will close at 3:30 p.m.; and during extended operational hours, from July 2 – August 23, ticket sales will close at 4:30 p.m.

Safety Guidelines: Children must be at least 44 inches tall.Everyone must be able to climb on their own, no one may be carried.Climbers under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Shoes are required.
