HARKERS ISLAND, NC - Superintendent Pat Kenney announced that hours of operation for the offices at the Great Island and Long Point Cabins within Cape Lookout National Seashore will be reduced when the cabins open for the season on March 16, 2013. The office hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The rustic cabins at Long Point and Great Island offer beachfront views of the pristine, undeveloped barrier islands of Cape Lookout National Seashore. The cabin camps can only be reached by boat, and provide a great way to visit the seashore. The reduction in staff hours is an effort to reduce operational costs of the cabins. The uncertainty of the federal budget and budget cuts has made it necessary to hire fewer seasonal staff members. "We recognize this will result in impacts to the level of service that our visitors expect," stated Superintendent Kenney. Visitors with reservations should plan accordingly to arrive at the cabins during the staffed office hours. Reservations for the cabins are available through www.recreation.gov or by calling (877) 444-6777 10 a.m. - Midnight EST. |
