HARKERS ISLAND, NC - Cape Lookout National Seashore announced that because of this week's inclement weather, the temporary closure of the Harkers Island Visitor Center(originally scheduled to end on Friday, December 14), has now been extended through Sunday, December 16. During this time, construction crews are replacing windows and installing hurricane shutters.The visitor center will reopen to visitors beginning Monday, December 17. Although the visitor center will be temporarily closed, the Harkers Island grounds will remain open to the public. Areas remaining open include the Shell Point picnic area, the Soundside Nature Trail, and the Willow Pond Nature Trail. Come stroll the trails or watch for dolphins feeding on the shoals just offshore. |
