HARKERS ISLAND, NC - The National Park Service welcomes the public to join park staff on Saturday, November 10th at the Harkers Island Visitor Center of Cape Lookout National Seashore as we investigate the Critters of the Night. This free program is open to all visitors. Scouts, home-school groups, and other organizations are asked to call ahead to help us plan for your group.

When the sun sets and many creatures are going to sleep, others are just waking up.Come and discover some of the mysterious animals which make the park come alive in the dark of the night.Live night animal ambassadors from the Outer Banks Wildlife Shelter will be on display and we may see others during the Night Hike activity.The constellations named after animals will be identified as we look at the night sky.Listen to animal tales and legends while relaxing around the campfire.Be sure to bring your chairs and blankets to make it more comfortable around the fire.

5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
The Outer Banks Wildlife Shelter will have live animals on display as they present an interactive program about night animals.

6:00 - 6:30 p.m.
Dinner Break.

6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Conquer your fears and enjoy a guided hike through the maritime forest. (Bring your flashlights.)

7:30 - 8:00 p.m.
Did you know that there are critters in the night-time sky also?Guided by a knowledgeable astronomer, we will learn about some of the animal named constellations.

8:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Fear of the unknown has produced many legends about night-time critters.Join the rangers for a Fireside Chat to discover the facts about these animals.

If we have inclement weather that night - Come anyway! Activities will move indoors if necessary.
