Harkers Island, NC- The Duck Blind permit lottery traditionally held at Cape Lookout National Seashore the day after Labor Day has been postponed. Instead of being held on Tuesday, September 6, 2011. It will be held on Tuesday, September 20, at 9:00 a.m. at the Harkers Island Visitor Center.

The park will utilize a lottery system to determine the initial order for registration. All hunters who are present at the Harkers Island Visitor Center at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 20 will draw a numbered ticket. This ticket will determine the order for registering a duck blind permit. After the lottery is complete, the remaining duck blind spaces will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Anyone registering a duck blind permit needs to bring: a valid hunting license, a signed duck stamp, and a photo ID.There is no charge for the permit this year. The postponement of the lottery was necessary because park staff is dedicated to Hurricane Irene recovery efforts within the park. It is expected the lottery will return to its traditional date next year.

Phone service is still out at the Harkers Island Visitor Center and there is no access to e-mail. The National Park Service staff will post updates about reopening of park areas and activities on the park website at www.nps.gov/calo and via Twitter at twitter.com/CapeLookoutNPS.
