Harkers Island, N.C. – Acting Superintendent Mike Tranel welcomes the public to join us on Sunday, April 17, at the Harkers Island Visitor Center of Cape Lookout National Seashore, as we celebrate Junior Ranger Day and National Park Week. Scouts, home-school groups and other organizations are asked to call ahead to help us plan for your group.

Experience the seashore through Ranger led programs and earn the limited edition Junior Ranger Day items such as patches, badges, and certificates as you learn about the plants, animals, and people who have weathered the storms of Cape Lookout. 

Kite Flying, 10:00am – 11:00am
The ever present wind of Cape Lookout is a great place to enjoy flying kites. Bring a kite from home or create a new one here with us.

Bells and Whistles, 11:00am – 12:30pm 
Get an inside look at the boats and vehicles used by Law Enforcement Rangers.

Ranger Tales, 12:30pm – 1:00pm
Listen to exciting stories about Park Rangers and dress up in various park employee uniforms.

Shells and Bones, 1:00pm – 2:00pm
Discover the identity of the some curious items found along our beaches.

Surf Rescue Drills, 2:00pm – 3:00pm
Experience the thrill of being in the historic Life-Saving Service by learning some Surf Rescue Drills.

Soundside Hike & Scavenger Hunt, 3:00 pm – 4:00pm
Eggs can be found anywhere. See how many you can find on our nature hike.

Junior Ranger Adventures, All Day
Hands on activities are a great way to explore Cape Lookout National Seashore.

Seaside Treasure ID, All Day
Found it on the beach but don't know what it is? Bring it to us: we'll discover its identity together.

Seaside Crafts, All Day
Nature provides supplies to make fun and challenging crafts to take home.

Ranger Photo Op, All Day
Ever want to be a ranger? Put your face on the body and get your picture taken.

Cast and Catch, All Day
Practice your aim while casting for plastic fish.
