Cape Lookout Lighthouse 150th Anniversary Juried Art Contest, Exhibition and Sale

Harkers Island, North Carolina -- Superintendent Russel J. Wilson announced that there is still time to enter art and photos into the Juried Art Exhibition to be held at the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum from October 10, 2009 until November 1, 2009. Artwork must be registered on or before Monday, October 5, 2009 (from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.)

 

The Core Sound Waterfowl Museum and Heritage Center is open for viewing the exhibition, Monday through Saturday, from 10 AM to 5 PM, and on Sunday from 2 PM to 5 PM. Please note eligibility requirements and the details of the exhibit/contest below:

Artwork Registration – on or before Monday, October 5, 2009 (10– 5)

         Mail-ins accepted if received by October 5th.

Please call or email for registration forms for mail-in entries.

Return postage or pickup is the responsibility of the artist.

Artwork will be available for pickup at close of show on Nov 1.

 

Jury Date – Wednesday, October 7, 2009

          Artist selection will be announced by 3 pm, October 7th. 

Artists may contact the museum for selected artist/entries.

Non-selected work will be available for pickup on October 8th.

 

Subject – All entries must include Cape Lookout Lighthouse.

 

Eligibility – Artists 18 years of age or older. [A student art exhibition is also being planned through Carteret County Schools.] This show is open to two-dimensional artwork and original photography.

 

Entries – Please obtain an entry form to register for the exhibit from the Core Sound Museum or Cape Lookout National Seashore All entries must be completed original work created by the entering artist within the past three years. All paintings and photographs must be matted and wrapped OR framed AND wired for hanging. Maximum size for both art and photography is 48” wide and 60” high.      All accepted exhibited entries must remain on display for the duration of the show. Artists are responsible for insuring their own artwork.

 

 

Entry Fees - Entry fees will be collected at time of registration.

o        $10 for first entry (museum members)

o        $30 for first entry (non-museum members, includes one-year membership)

o        $10 for each additional entry (all entries)

o        Limit 3 items each per category (art and photography)

 

Awards -- Monetary awards and certificates of merit will be presented at the Cape Lookout 150th Anniversary Art Reception on Sunday afternoon, November 1, 2009. 

 

Awards are as follows: Art                   1st Place        $ 500,

           2nd Place       $ 300

                                                                     3rd Place       $ 100

                                             Photography     1st Place        $ 300

                                                                     2nd Place       $ 200

                                                                     3rd Place       $ 100

 

People’s Choice awards in both categories will be awarded.

 

Sales -- The sale of artwork and photography is permitted. Entries do not have to be for sale and should be noted accordingly at registration. Commission on all work sold from the opening to the closing of the show will be set at 25%. 

 

Entries sold during the exhibition will be labeled sold and will be delivered to the purchaser at the end of the show by CSWM&HC.

 

Notifications of artwork sold will be forwarded to the artist on November 1 and checks will be mailed within 30 days of close of show.

 

Reception -- CSWM&HC and Cape Lookout National Seashore will include information on the Art Exhibition and Closing Reception in all 150th Anniversary press releases and announcements. 

 

All participating artists and their guests will be invited. (A list of invitees will be requested of all artists.) 

 

The reception will be held from 2-4 pm on Sunday afternoon, November 1 as part of the Lighthouse Relighting Ceremonies to be held at Shell Point at 5 pm. Entertainment, refreshments and special guests are being planned for this event.
