Harkers Island, NC - The National Park Service is pleased to announce the following progress with Hurricane Irene recovery:
- All of the seashore (Shackleford, North and South Core Banks) will be open for pedestrian based overnight camping beginning on Friday, September 16, 2011
- South Core Banks will reopen for vehicle use beginning on Friday, September 23, 2011
- Cabins at Great Island Camp on South Core Banks will reopen for overnight lodging beginning on Saturday, October 1, 2011.The park will honor previous reservations starting October 1.
The following areas remain closed:
- The Long Point cabin area on North Core Banks
- The Portsmouth Village Historic District
- North Core Banks remains closed to all vehicle use
The Park is working to repair the Portsmouth Haulover Dock and is continuing with cleanup and repairs at
