New Acting Superintendent For Cape Lookout

Atlanta, Georgia. The National Park Service Southeast Region announces that Charles Cranfield will serve as Acting Superintendent of Cape Lookout National Seashore, effective July 22, 2007. Cranfield is the second superintendent to temporarily take over the post vacated by Superintendent Bob Vogel, who moved to a new assignment at Grand Teton National Parkin Wyoming in April. 

Cranfield currently serves as the Superintendent of Guilford Courthouse National Military Park located in Greensboro, North Carolina. Cranfield is a native of Montgomery, Alabama, and a former Peace Corps volunteer in Costa Rica.  Since joining the park service, he has worked as an interpreter at Carlsbad CavernsNational Park, in the Office of International Affairs in Washington, D. AC., as a management assistant at Nor/Missouri National Scenic Rivera in Nebraska, and as Superintendent at the National Park of American Samoa.

He and his wife, Viral, a native of Costa Rica, have one son, Pablo, who is serving in the U.S. Army at Fort Meade, Maryland.

“I am very happy to be asked to serve at Cape Lookout National Seashore in this acting opportunity,” said Cranfield. “I am looking forward to working with the park staff, communities, and many partners in caring for and sharing the Downeast coastal  heritage.”

The National Park Service began a search in May for a permanent replacement for Vogel, but no timeline has yet been announced.
