Contact: Wouter Ketel, (252) 728-2250 Ext. 3005 Harkers Island, North Carolina– Superintendent Russel J. Wilson reminds all park visitors of the federal regulation (36 CFR 2.38 (b)) prohibiting the use and possession of fireworks within the boundaries of Cape Lookout National Seashore. Due to the lack of rain and general dryness in the coastal areas, there is a major concern for potential wildfires. Fireworks are a significant contributor to wildland fires during this time of year. Safety of the park’s visitors, resources, and historic structures is a crucial concern of the Cape Lookout National Seashore staff. During this holiday weekend, Rangers will be providing extra patrols. These patrols will enhance visitor safety, allow for more visitor access to the Rangers, and ensure that regulations are being followed, especially those concerning fireworks. Our National Parks are wonderful places to honor and celebrate our nation’s independence. We hope everyone has a safe and happy Fourth of July at Cape Lookout National Seashore. |
