Harkers Island, North Carolina Russel J. Wilson, Superintendent of Cape Lookout National Seashore announced the park has been awarded a National Park Service Youth Intern Program Grant for the summer of 2010 for Mentoring Youth Toward Career Opportunities.

 

Cape Lookout National Seashore’s grant award will fund the paid employment of four local youths from socially and economically diverse backgrounds to participate in a mentoring program within the park. Participants will work in the park assisting the Park Ranger staff in a variety of duties within the Interpretive, Natural Resources, and Visitor and Resource Protection divisions. The Mentoring Youth Toward Career Opportunities Project will also provide skills training in areas such as resume writing, filling out job applications, job searching, successful interview skills, practical skills for use within the workplace, and career opportunities with the National Park Service.

 

The project seeks applicants from students at Carteret Community College and rising high school seniors at the three county high schools.
