Cape Lookout Light Station

This image from 1913 shows the other buildings of the Cape Lookout Light Station clustered around the base of the lighthouse.

A "Light Station" consists not only of the actual lighthouse but also any supporting structures such as the quarters for the lighthouse keepers, oil house, cisterns, coal and wood sheds and any other storage or work buildings. In the 20th century, a radio-beacon or other electronic navigational aid might have been added to the station.
