The Peregrine Falcon is a top predator in the avian world. Able to reach speeds of over 180mph in a dive, the falcon uses this to its advantage to stun prey with a quick strike. The falcons you see are are the newest members to the Chesapeake Conservancy's webcam family.
The Osprey, much like the Blue Crab, is an iconic symbol of the Chesapeake Bay. Also known as the "Fish Hawk" this impressive creature lives and hunts in coastal areas where fish are abundant.
Great blue herons live in colonies called rookeries. These tall, bluish-gray wading birds have long, pointed bills and graceful, S-shaped necks. They live year-round in marshes and wetlands throughout the Chesapeake Bay region and are also found on freshwater lakes, ponds and impoundments.
