Two additional closures have been lifted through volunteerism. Hard on the heels of the reopening of South Maumee and Rush campgrounds, Buffalo National River is pleased to announce that the Ponca restrooms and the Erbie Horsecamp have been reopened. The Upper Buffalo River Merchants Association has signed an agreement to conduct routine maintenance on the Ponce restrooms, closed since winter due to staffing reductions at the park. This will alleviate the stress surrounding this popular put-in and swimming location. The Backcountry Horsemen of America – Buffalo River Chapter have also volunteered to manage the restroom and trash collection at the Erbie Horsecamp below Compton. The Erbie Campground on the south side of the Buffalo River remains closed at this time, although river access remains open. Other closures, including Blue Hole and Buffalo Point Loop E, are still in effect. |
