Buffalo National River is closing Tyler Bend and Buffalo Point campgrounds today in anticipation of the expected flood event this weekend. Maintenance crews are pulling electrical breaker boxes, vending machines, and other water-sensitive utilities now so that when the waters recede, getting the campgrounds operational again will be quicker and less costly.

In other areas of the park visitors may encounter barricades at or near river access points or areas prone to flash flooding such as Lost Valley Trail. Please respect these as they are intended to promote visitor safety. People love to watch and photograph the river in flood, but please select a safe vantage point while doing so.

The search for the person whose canoe capsized in the Buffalo River Wednesday continued until 7 pm last night (4/27) and has resumed this morning. As a part of the search, the Buffalo River remains closed to all floating between Kyles Landing and Erbie until further notice.

Although today the river is dropping it will become unsafe for floating quickly with the advent of the predicted storm. Visitors can call Tyler Bend Visitor Center at 870/439-2502 or Buffalo Point Visitor Contact Station at 870/449-4310 for river and facility information. To report emergencies, please call park dispatch at 888/692-1162. Be safe!
