Celebrating Native American Heritage Month

This concert features Native American flutist Lewis Johnson of the Seminole Nation and Injunuity, an all Native American group formed in 2007 with two renowned composer/musicians, Choctow composer Brad Clouch and Chickasaw composer Jeff Carpenter.

The music of Injunuity focuses on two things. First, it promotes the introduction of Native American music and history into popular culture, helping break stereotypes about Native Americans and the music within Indian culture. Second, it preserves an aspect of Native heritage through use of the culturally iconic Native American flute. All music Injunuity performs and composes is based on the Native flute, making this group a rare genre find when mixed with their sounds of jazz and rock and roll.

After releasing Unconquered, Injunuity was nominated for three national music awards, featured on XM Satellite Radio, and began traveling and performing across the country. The group was nominated for two ISMA Awards (Indian Summer Music Awards) and the Native American Music Awards and won their first NAMMY, which is the Native American version of the GRAMMYs, for 2008 Debut Group of the Year.
