Brown v. Board Anniversary

The Brown v. Board of Education decision was the culmination of more than a century of legal and civil struggles. Overturning of the Separate But Equal doctrine in public schools opened the floodgates and served as a foundation for for the fight against the Plessy decision in other aspects of American life. Brown v. Board served as a signal fire the United States was ready for change and to fullfill its promises laid out in the U.S. Constitution.

Each year we celebrate this momentous decision on May 17th, the day in 1954 the U.S. Supreme court recognized "In the field of public education, the doctrine of Separate But Equal has no place."

In 2023, the Brown v. Board of Education NHP hosted a community concert in commemoration and celebration of the 69th anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education decision. Visitors saw performers such as Kate Campbell, Joseph Walker, DoubleStuf quartet, and Kori Geuadoe.
