Experiencing All Four Seasons at the Monument

Booker T. Washington National Monument experiences four distinct seasons, each providing unique opportunities for visitors. During spring, the monument comes alive as trees bud and bloom, especially throughout the historic core. This season also marks planting time in the Heritage Garden. Temperatures generally range from 60°F to 75°F. Summer is characterized by hot, humid conditions, with temperatures often reaching 85°F or higher. This is the busiest season, attracting many visitors for the annual Juneteenth Celebration. Autumn offers mild weather and vibrant foliage along the monument’s trails. Temperatures typically range from 55°F to 70°F. Winter brings colder temperatures, typically in the 30s°F to 40s°F, making it an ideal time to explore the visitor center's indoor exhibit or take a brisk walk on the Jack-O-Lantern Heritage Trail. Visitors are encouraged to bring warm clothing during this season.
