Stephen (Steve) Handly who has served most recently as the Facility Management Specialist at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore in Indiana, has been selected as the new Facility Manager at Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. According to the announcement by Big South Fork Superintendent Reed Detring, Handly will assume the duties of his new position in April of this year. Detring stated, “We are looking forward to Mr. Handly coming to Big South Fork and becoming both part of the park and the community.” Handly began his career with the National Park Service in 1977 at Mammoth Cave National Park as a physical science/radon technician, then spent an additional five years there as a park technician. Handly then spent eight years working at the Great Onyx Job Corps center in Ollie, Kentucky. He later worked at a number of National Park Service units including Kenai Fjords National Park, Vicksburg National Military Park, and Redwood National Park before assuming his current role of Facility Management Specialist at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore in 1998. Handly will be traveling to Big South Fork NRRA with his wife Crisly, who is presently the Administrative/computer technician at the USGS field station in Indiana. They have two children, a daughter Meghan who is a recent graduate of Purdue and a son Sean who is studying at Purdue. Handly fills a position left vacant when Juan Gomez transferred to Denali National Park last year. |
