Vandalism to the trailhead facilities at the Mt. Helen Trailhead, located in the southern portion of the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, was recently discovered by National Park Service staff. Damage occurred to the trailhead bulletin board and trail directional signs. Although these items had no value to the vandals, much costly damage was done, requiring expensive repairs. Big South Fork Superintendent Niki Stephanie Nicholas said that money from other projects will now have to be used to repair the senseless destruction. |
