Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area will initiate preliminary ground work to support design suitability of the historically significant Leatherwood Ford low water bridge, located on Highway 297, near Oneida, Tennessee.
Subsurface analysis and data collection will be used to develop an appropriate low water bridge design to renovate the current bridge, embracing sustainability. National Park Service staff will be on-site with a contractor at the Leatherwood Ford site to survey and collect soil samples by means of geotechnical drilling.
Work will take place beginning Monday, September 12, concluding Thursday, September 15, 2016.
The comfort station as well as trailhead parking at Leatherwood Ford will remain open during this time.
