Contact: Letitia Neal, (423) 569-9778 Contact: Chris Derman Bring your family and friends to celebrate the National Park Service’s 100th birthday at Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area and Obed Wild and Scenic River from Thursday, August 25 through Sunday, August 28. Free camping has been authorized at the Alum Ford Campground (Big South Fork) and Rock Creek Campground (Obed) as well as for all backcountry permits for these days. Alum Ford Campground, located on the Big South Fork, offers a tranquil camping experience near the edge of the Big South Fork River on the Kentucky side of the park. There are six campsites with grills, picnic tables, and lantern hooks as well as accessible vault toilets. The Sheltowee Trace Trail also passes through this campground. Rock Creek Campground, located on the Obed, offers riverside camping spots near the stunning Emory River. There are eleven campsites with grills, picnic tables, and lantern hooks as well as a brand new vault toilet facility. The campground also connects with the Emory River Nature Trail and the Cumberland Trail. Kick off the weekend by joining us at the Obed Visitor Center for the 5th Annual Photo Contest Reveal on Thursday, August 25 starting at 5:00 p.m. (ET). Visitors are also encouraged to attend the premiere for the Big South Fork NRRA movie at Bandy Creek on Saturday, August 27 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm (ET).
