Join Rangers for Saturday Programs at Big South Fork

On Saturday, July 26, 2008, rangers at Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area will present two programs.  Both are free and open to the public.

Saturday afternoon, Park Guide Chance Finegan will lead a guided walk along the Oscar Blevins Loop Trail to Muleshoe Rockshelter.  On the way, Ranger Finegan will talk about forest succession, rockshelters, geology, and the human history of the Big South Fork.  This is an easy 1.4 mile round-trip hike.  Meet at the Bandy Creek Trailhead (just past the pool on Bandy Creek Road on your left) at 3:00 Eastern Daylight Time (EDT).  Please bring plenty of water to drink and wear comfortable walking shoes (closed-toed).

Saturday evening, Park Ranger Howard Duncan will present “Stories of Big South Fork” at the Bandy Creek Campfire Circle, located in the B Loop of the Bandy Creek Campground.  The rugged landscape of the Big South Fork area shaped the lives of the people who lived here, and there are many stories to be told.  Join Ranger Duncan at 7:00 p.m. EDT for a fun and exciting evening.
