Bring your family and friends and celebrate the National Park Service's 98th birthday at the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. One night of free camping at the Alum Ford Campground and free backcountry permits have been authorized for Monday, August 25. Alum Ford Campground offers a unique camping experience near the banks of the Big South Fork River on the Kentucky side of the park. There are six camp sites with grills, picnic tables, and lantern hooks as well as accessible vault toilets. If you are looking to get away from it all, explore one of the many areas of the Big South Fork backcountry with a camping permit. With waterfalls, arches, and a variety of wildlife, the backcountry is an adventure waiting for you. The National Park Service has grown to over 84 million acres in every state, the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Celebrate by getting out and exploring a national park near you. More information is available at https://www.nationalparks.org/founders-day.
