Oneida, Tennessee – Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area will host the 15th annual Blue Heron Ghost Mine on Saturday, October 18, 2025, celebrating Kentucky’s rich tradition of storytelling at the historic Blue Heron Mining Community.
This free, family-friendly event begins at 5:00 PM (ET) with Junior Ranger activities and living history demonstrators, alongside live music by Crazy Chester and David Howard.
At 7:00 PM (ET), four local storytellers will share tales rooted in local history and folk tradition beneath the backdrop of the coal tipple. Local vendors will be on site offering food, crafts, and other items throughout the evening.
Visitors can reach the Blue Heron Outdoor Museum in two ways: by driving directly to 8249 Mine 18 Road, Strunk, Kentucky, where free parking is available, or by taking the Big South Fork Scenic Railway from Stearns. Railway tickets are required and may be purchased through the Railway.
