Recent rain showers and cooler weather have reduced fire activity and Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area officials have lifted the ban on open fires in the park.
Open fires are now allowed in established fire grates in campgrounds and in the backcountry.
Weather conditions have aided firefighter efforts in suppressing fires and moderated fire activity on fires in the region. Visitors and residents are asked to assist the park’s fire managers by being careful with their use of fire in order to prevent additional fire starts.
The recent superintendent’s fire restriction, signed November 2, 2016, and fire ban, signed November 16, 2016, have been rescinded. All other current federal, state, and local laws pertaining to fire use are still in effect.
