The Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area will be sponsoring a special opportunity for you to view the night sky and maybe see some meteors. On Saturday, August 18, beginning at 9:30 p.m. ET, Paul Lewis from the University of Tennessee will be presenting a slide program entitled “Meteors and Comets”. Follow the slide program telescopes will be set up in the Bandy Creek Visitor Center parking lot for night sky observing.

Mid-August is the time of year to look for “shooting stars” called the Perseid Meteor showers. If skies are clear, it is a good time to keep looking up at night. You just might catch a glimpse of a fleeting meteor. The Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area is a great spot to go stargazing. The big, open, fields and the dark environment at Bandy Creek lead to some spectacular views of the night sky.
