Knowledge of Wild Plants

collecting native plants
The Ancestral Pueblo people were very knowledgeable about native plant uses and continued to use this knowledge even after agriculture had become a way of life.

NPS Collection

Even after people were able to obtain most of their staple foods from farming, knowledge of native plants remained important. These plants provided variety to the diet and were a source of medicines, tools, and dyes. Wild plants were often dried for storage.
