Wildlife Viewing in Point Reyes National Seashore
Point Reyes National Seashore in California offers superb opportunities for wildlife viewing. Home to nearly 40 species of land mammals and at least a dozen species of marine mammals, Point Reyes is also a hub for birders. The Point Reyes peninsula provides a habitat for nearly half of all the bird species found in North America. While visiting Point Reyes and walking its many coastal trails, you might spot herds of tule elk, or the once nearly extinct northern elephant seal. Jutting 10 miles into the Pacific Ocean, Point Reyes also offers one of the best spots for viewing the migrations of the California gray whale.
