Volunteer Story: Elizabeth and Mike Mishler
Good things often come in pairs. This surely is the case with Elizabeth and Mike Mishler, a dedicated volunteer duo at Pullman National Historical Park. The Mishlers were eager volunteers at the new Pullman National Historical Park Visitor Center right from the Grand Opening during Labor Day Weekend 2021. They do all the usual things to make visitors feel welcome: greeting them with a smile, providing wayfinding around the Park and answering questions. As residents of Pullman, Elizabeth and Mike lend an extra layer of authenticity to their advice and recommendations of what to see in the Park. The Mishlers’ involvement is not only limited to working the information desk. They also have worked special events, assisted with the Junior Ranger program, and help with administrative tasks. Currently, they are helping develop a resource guide to Pullman for future volunteers to use. They can truly do it all!
Their dedication has been a tremendous help to the newly opened visitor center at Pullman National Historical Park. Because of their constant support and reliability, the rangers have designated Mondays as Mishler Mondays. Elizabeth loves volunteering because, as she puts it, “as a volunteer I can combine my love for Pullman and National Parks. It is exhilarating to continually learn and see more and more of the complex story and its connections to present day..[It’s] a dream come true.” For Mike, he “likes being a small part of the Pullman story” and is glad he can “contribute to the community.”
Thank you, Elizabeth and Mike, for your continued service to Pullman National Historical Park, its staff, and its visitors. We're lucky to have you on our team!
