Calvin has given much of his own time by serving as dedicated maintenance volunteer at Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park for many years. If you have spent time visiting the battlefield you may have come across Calvin's work without even realizing it.

Calvin has worked on several maintenance projects throughout the park ranging from sign maintenance to cannon restoration. The majority of these projects are considered backlog maintenance and without Calvin’s hard work on these projects, many would remain incomplete.

Here is a short list of some of Calvin's accomplishments:

  • Reconstructing the wood fence at the Fredericksburg Visitor Center Grounds.

  • Painting park gates on Lee Drive.

  • Restoring the Wilderness Battlefield Caisson & Limber.

  • Cannon restoration.

  • Painting road signs and posts at Spotsylvania Court House Battlefield

Together these projects help keep the park looking fresh and well-cared for. We hope that Calvin's attention and care for his work inspires everyone to care about these places just as much as he does.

The park's maintenance division has several maintenance needs and often volunteer opportunities for things like grounds maintenance support. Visit the volunteer page or contact us to learn about current opportunities.
