Upper Missisquoi and Trout Wild and Scenic Rivers

The Upper Missisquoi and Trout Rivers (UMATR) were officially designated as part of the Wild and Scenic rivers system on December 19, 2014 with a total of 46.1 miles designated. Some of the designated ORVs along the river include cultural, fish, geologic, historic, recreation, and scenic - including the highest concentration of covered bridges in any town in the U.S. The Upper Missisquoi and Trout Rivers contain the only river miles designated as Wild and Scenic in Vermont. With over 7,000 miles of river in the state, that equals less than 1/7th of 1% of the State’s river miles.
