The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties are common sense historic preservation principles in non-technical language. They promote historic preservation best practices that will help to protect our nation’s irreplaceable cultural resources.

Technical Preservation Services Publications Catalog

Technical Preservation Services in Heritage Preservation Services of the National Park Service provides a publications catalog of over 100 publications that are readily available to public and private individuals and organizations who are interested in the care and rehabilitation of historic places. The catalog collection includes standards and guidelines; public service leaflets and books on using tax incentives; reports on conserving fragile historic building materials; case studies on specific structures; and a wealth of technical guidance on preserving historic buildings.

National Register of Historic Places Bulletins and Brochures

The National Register of Historic Places provides a series of bulletins and brochures to provide guidance to document, evaluate, and nominate historically significant sites to the National Register. The series is divided into four sections: the Basics, Property Types, Technical Assistance, and General Guidance. There are also several brochures that provide information on the programs of the National Register.

CRM: The Journal of Heritage Stewardship

The National Center for Cultural Resources of the National Park Service produces CRM The Journal of Heritage Stewardship, a technical periodical to promote and maintain high standards for preserving and managing cultural resources.

Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program, Library Holdings List

The National Park Service, Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program maintains a library of resources related to Route 66, preservation, and transportation history.
