Route 66: How to Preserve your Building
The gas stations, cafes, motels, trading posts, and other buildings that line the Route 66 corridor are tangible links to the authentic Route 66 experience. Preserving them maintains an irreplaceable part of American history, and provides community and economic development opportunities for Route 66 communities.

- Contact your statewide preservation advocacy organization for technical assistance and advocacy help.
- Contact your state Route 66 Association to learn what preservation and advocacy resources they may offer.
- Find out if your town or city is a Certified Local Government, and if so what resources they have.
- Contact the National Park Service Route 66 Corridor Preservation Office to learn about cost-share grants and other available resources.
- Consult the National Park Service Preservation Library for help with preservation activities.
