Ready Ranger Round Up
In a big park like Mount Rainier, it takes a lot of people to take care of this place. There are different types of rangers and each have a special job. They each have special tools and skills they use to get the job done!
Read the description of each ranger. Learn about the job they do and the tools they need.
Pick one ranger and help them get ready for the day. Dress up your ranger with the things they will need to do the job by coloring this figure, or draw a ranger of your own. Don’t forget to include a ranger uniform and hat!
Ranger Jobs
Interpretation Ranger
Do have a question about the park? Ask an Interpretation Ranger! Their job is to help visitors find information about the park. They answer questions and guide people on where to go using maps. They also give ranger programs where they use things like telescopes, binoculars, and animal skins and skulls to share fun facts about the park.
Scientist
Scientists do research to learn more about the park. They study things like rocks, animals, and plants. They use a field notebook to write down everything they see and binoculars to look for animals. They use cameras to capture pictures of the things they want to learn more about.
Backcountry Ranger
These rangers are out in the backcountry, exploring trails and parts of the park that you can only get to by foot. They have a large backpack to carry everything they need like water, sunscreen, and a radio. They make sure people in the backcountry are doing their job to keep it clean and help people if they are in tricky situations.
Trail Crew Ranger
Ever wonder how a trail was made? It was probably built by a Trail Crew Ranger. They help create and maintain, or take care of, trails. When a tree falls over on the trail they use a chainsaw to move it. They use goggles, gloves, and a shovel to create new trails.
