Outside Science (inside parks): Ecosystem Restoration at Yukon-Charley Rivers
The Outside Science (inside parks) series shares stories of crucial, creative science. Each episode, produced in collaboration with Colorado State University, highlights the many ways young people are getting involved in science in parks. Part citizen science, part education, these videos cover topics such as sea turtles and light pollution, toxic algal blooms, and mercury levels in dragonfly larvae. “It’s positive work. And it’s tangible work. You can see the progress, and, hopefully, the outcome of the restoration.” In this episode of Outside Science (inside parks) we’re up in Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve with a team of scientists and interns working to restore a 7-mile section Coal Creek. In the early 1900s, gold mining operations in the valley wiped out a lot of the habitat for fish and insects. That habitat is important, especially for salmon.
