What's March Into Reading?

Beginning in 2023, Cowpens National Battlefield and the Spartanburg County Public Libraries (SCPL) offer a special reading program called March Into Reading! This program includes a booklet and a specially designed patch!

The booklet contains a suggested reading list for all ages compiled by librarians, bookmarks, and a certificate. Readers may earn a patch by reading three books from the reading list. The books must be related to history, nature, wildlife, or outdoor recreation.

Visitors may participate by downloading a program booklet online or by asking for a booklet in person at Cowpens National Battlefield and SCPL locations. If you don't live near us, no problem! Download the booklet, document the books you read on the back, take a picture of it, and email the image to COWP_Information@nps.gov. We will mail you the patches.

The March Into Reading Patch

The patch has symbols that are important to the nearby city of Spartanburg, South Carolina and the state of South Carolina. Look closely and you will see the Spartanburg clock tower, Yellow Jessamine (SC state flower), a Carolina Wren (SC State bird), White tail deer (SC state animal), Eastern tiger swallowtail (SC State butterfly), Price House (Spartanburg history), Continental soldier (American Revolution history), Cannon for Cowpens National Battlefield, Caboose from the Hub City Railroad museum (Spartanburg history), and the sun rise in the back is a reference to Spartanburg as the hub city!
