Lorraine Lans was born in Norwood, Massachusetts and moved to Stonington In 1976. She studied with Impressionist painter Henry Hensche at the Cape School of Art in Provincetown, Massachusetts, attended Boston University School of Visual Art, then studied with the Boston School painters atelier at the Fenway Studios in Boston. She studied portraits at Malden Bridge School of Art, N.Y. with Betty Warren. As a plein air painter, she paints landscapes on the spot capturing the light at that specific time of day. Her portrait commissions are done from life in her North light studio where she tries to get the essence of the individual. Through her time spent bird hunting in Maine, she has developed an interest in painting wildlife scenes. With an extensive exhibition history showing in galleries around the country including the Michelle and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts, Springfield, Ma., the Salon International Exhibit at the Greenhouse Gallery in San Antonio, TX. She has been recognized by the Academic Artists Association with their highest award of “Juror’s Choice” in their National Exhibition and by an Honorable Mention from the Cape Cod Art Association’s “All New England Exhibition”.
