Life Along the River

(image) Detail depicting Cahokian men constructing a village house.

Success may have overcome the moundbuilders. Ultimately, mass migrations decimated the river towns–induced, perhaps, by overcrowding, poor sanitation, competition for limited resources, and the class structure. Little was left when the Europeans arrived. Illustration by Michael Hampshire. Use prohibited without permission.
