ROAD RESURFACING PROJECT CONTINUES Starting on or about September 23, 2010, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) in cooperation with the National Park Service (NPS) will continue the project to resurface the Battlefield Tour Road at Antietam National Battlefield. North of MD Route 34 VISITOR CENTER PARKING LOT: CLOSED TOMORROW Friday 11/19- WILL REOPEN FOR WEEKEND. PARKING WILL BE AVAILABLE IN DONUT OR PIT. RICHARDSON AVE: CLOSURE SCHEDULED FOR 11/22 MUMMA LANE: CLOSURE SCHEDULED FOR 11/23 Starke Ave. is closed. UPCOMING WORK BEGINNING IN OR AROUND NOV 22-24

PROJECT SUMMARY: 80% of the project work has been completed on the project South of MD Route 34. Work will continue on the stone ditches and headwalls and Sherrick Run Bridge. Also guardrails will be installed. The park will remain open to visitors but over the course of the project some areas will be temporarily closed and detours will be in place. During critical periods such as the period around the Memorial Illumination a hold will be placed on construction so there will be little impact to visitors. Antietam National Battlefield staff asks for the visitor's patience and understanding of the short term inconvenience, in order to provide long term benefits.
