Never approach or feed wildlife, for both your safety and theirs. Check local weather forecasts, stay hydrated, and dress accordingly. Be courteous on the Anacostia River Trail. Share the path with pedestrians, dog walkers, and bikers.

Be aware of the tides. The Anacostia River fluctuates three feet throughout the day. Heavy rains and high tide may cause the river to flood. Do not enter a flooded area, even if it looks shallow. Currents may be faster than they appear.
