The winter season is a beautiful time to visit Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site! We want you to have a safe and enjoyable visit to the park this winter.

Winter Hours of Operation
Beginning December 1, 2024, the Visitor Center, Engine House No. 6 Exhibit Shelter and the Lemon House are closed Wednesdays and Thursdays. Park buildings are open Fridays through Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Weather permitting, park grounds and trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset. Please note, there is no winter maintenance on park trails.

Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are permitted on park trails.

Trails are for pedestrian use only. No motorized vehicles are permitted on trails. This includes ATV (All Terrain Vehicles) of any description, snowmobiles, and 4x4 off road vehicles.

Before you visit

The park is located at around 2,320 feet in elevation. The weather information on the current conditions page can be used as a general guide to regional conditions, but please be aware the weather at Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site may differ significantly.

Checking the National Weather Service forecast is helpful before planning a visit.
