Three ghosts await visitors at the Staple Bend Tunnel

Join us this October for our popular Spirit Tours. Tours will be held on Saturday, October 10 at the park in Cresson amid the backdrop of the Lemon House and Engine House No. 6. Tours will also be held on Saturday, October 31 at the Staple Bend Tunnel located in Mineral Point, PA. Here are the details for the tours:

Spirits on the Summit Evening Walking Tour on Saturday, October 10
This tour will be held at Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site. Here about the darker side of life and death on the Allegheny Portage Railroad. Learn about the hazards that workers and travelers of the 1830s and 1850s faced as they crossed the Allegheny Mountains.

These family-friendly tours will be held in the evening at:

6:00, 6:20, 6:40, 7:00, 7:20, 7:40, 8:00, 8:20, and 8:40.

Space for the 50 minute tours is limited to 15 people per tour.

Spirits of the Staple Bend Tunnel on Saturday, October 31 (Halloween!)
Join the staff and volunteers of Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site for our popular fall program, "The Spirits of the Staple Bend Tunnel." Visitors will meet park staff at the Staple Bend Tunnel parking lot in Mineral Point and take a short bus ride to the tunnel. At the tunnel, visitors will meet historic characters who will share some of the darker stories of traveling and working on the Allegheny Portage Railroad. The hour long program includes a lantern lit walk through the 901-foot-long tunnel. The hour long tours begin at 6:00, 7:00, 8:00, and 9:00 pm.
