Date: August 17, 2020 Contact: Stacy Humphreys stacy_humphreys@nps.gov 270-358-3137 Hodgenville, KY - Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park will observe the Centennial anniversary of the passing of the 19th Amendment on the evening of August 26, 2020. During the event, the park's Memorial Building will be illuminated in the colors of purple and gold - the colors that were traditionally used by the suffragettes who fought for women's rights to vote. The event is free and open to the public and will run from 6:30 to 9:30 pm (EST). Visitors are also encouraged to participate in submitting names of individuals who have struggled for equality, for a "Freedom Roll Call" that will be read during the event. Visitors will have the opportunity to make suffragette ribbons to wear during the event in the colors of purple, gold, and white. The ribbon will be provided by the park. You may submit names for the "Freedom Roll Call" by either calling the park at (270) 358-3137 or submitting them via the park's Facebook page. Visitors are encouraged to bring flashlights, bring bug spray, and wear sturdy walking shoes during the event.
