Tickets to visit the crown of the Statue of Liberty are now available online, David Luchsinger, superintendent of Statue of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island, announced today. The crown will reopen on October 28, following a year of renovations.

Statue of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island has extended its summer hours. Through Labor Day (Sept. 3, 2012), ferries depart Battery Park as late as 5 p.m. and return from the national icons as late as 7 p.m.

Original

The Statue's original torch was the first part constructed in 1876. In 1984 it was replaced by a new copper torch covered in 24K gold leaf which is lighted by floodlight at night.  The original torch is currently located in the lobby of the monument.  Access to the torch has been closed since 1916.
