SALEM, MA - Salem Maritime National Historic Site, the History Department at Salem State University and Schooner Fame are proud to present a series of free public lectures beginning on Tuesday, September 30th. Our lecture series kicks off with Capt. Mike Rutstein's engaging look at the final year of the War of 1812. The series continues in October with Dr. Emerson "Tad" Baker's new examination of the Salem Witch Trials and in November with SSU Professor Dane Morrison's exploration of Yankee seafarers from his new book, True Yankees. Capt. Michael Rutstein of the schooner Fame will discuss the terrifying final year of the War of 1812, the genesis of our National Anthem, and the economic and political impact of the War. As a full-scale replica of the famous schooner commissioned as a privateer when War broke out in the summer of 1812, the schooner Fame always flies the 15-star, 15-stripe Star Spangled Banner.

Dr. Emerson W. Baker will introduce his newly-released book, which sets the Salem Witch Trials in the broader context of American history from the seventeenth century to the present, and examines their enduring legacy. Dr. Baker's new book will be available for purchase at the lecture and he will be doing a book signing immediately following the lecture.
